I don't really like it, for several reasons:

1) It removes a lot of responsibility from the terrorist. Even if this doesn't happen, it still makes them sympathetic, which could become problematic.

2) Prohibition of an addictive substance never works well on anything, it only drives it further underground and makes it profitable. This would be bad for us, because we don't need Islam to be viewed as a source of profit in the secular world, instead of just the religious world.

3) Banning a worldview for it's own sake is bad, and use of psychiatry to do it would be worse. Big Brother is bad enough, but I especially don't want the Scientologists being right about psychology ;)

Hmmm ... mental illness ... who claims they're the stars in treating mental illness ... hmmm ... oh, yeah, SCIENTOLOGY!

That's the ticket!

Send in a bunch of "Clears" to deal with the Jihadists! A few days locked in a hut with Tom Cruise will have 'em begging for waterboarding!

Nonono!

Being locked in with Scientologists would only increase their suicidal drive, they'll kill us all for nothing!

I just ran across this about the psychology of conspiracy theory:

Seems somewhat similar.
