When one is an organization supposedly devoted to humanitarian ends, such as PETA, one must be careful with whom one chooses to associate ( Read more... )

*dryly* Hey, we harass the humans able to be responsible and ignore those who refuse to do so in international situations, why would inter-species interactions be any different?

I really consider PETA a hate group, they are one step away from gunning down someone someday.

I'm given to understand that their file at the FBI officially classifies them as a terrorist organization.

No way! PETA ragging on Obama about the fly is for real? I thought it was a joke!

Yes, PETA is apparently for real stupid enough to attack the only President in American history likely to have even the tiniest bit of regard for them; and Obama is apparently for real cowardly enough to yield before this attack. Which is not a good omen for the showdowns with Iran and North Korea, to reference some of my other entries ...

If animals are given the same rights that we are, does that mean that lions will be prosecuted when they kill a gazelle?

Which is precisely why we can't give all animals the same rights that we have -- they aren't capable of handling the responsibilities that come along with it.

This is what PETA fails to grasp.

What I'm in favor of is giving some animals (the smartest ones) more rights than they have now. Not giving all animals "the same rights that we have."

Unfortunately, PETA's foolishness tends to make it more difficult for me to argue for a workable solution to the problem of cruelty to the higher animals.

I've always felt that the SPCA and like groups was enough. Though, perhaps they could do with a bit more authority and harsher punishments.

I don't think we should let chimps apply for citizenship, but I'm all for making sure that they are cared for just as well as any other employee if they're working (circus, movies, etc) with health insurance and a "retirement plan" (quality care when they're too old to perform).

Though, I will say of PETA that they are more restrained than groups like the ALF.

This is just another example of their complete and utter hypocrisy. They get their panties in a wad over President Obama swatting a fly, while they have a record - and by all evidence, an official-but-unpublicized policy - of killing more than 95% of all animals that come into their control, usually without even attempting to find them homes. There are many documented cases of PETA members "adopting" pets from shelters in order to immediately kill them.

PETA is "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals" only if you accept a definition of "Ethical Treatment" of which Heinrich Himmler would have approved.

Quite true. All the data is available at http://www.petakillsanimals.com

There are a lot of hypocrites in this world, but I've never seen any group so OPEN and shameless about their hypocrisy.

... under the theory that an animal is better off dead than "enslaved" as a pet. Which is absurd, as many pets are treated more as companions than as slaves.

For people who think that they appreciate Nature, they seem not to have grasped the concept of symbiosis, which is the interspecies relationship which humans and their pets practice.

I bet they pass a brick during the Iditarod...

"OMGWTF?! The poor dawgiez!"

There are human employees that don't get treated near as well as some working animals.
