We've been living in Newark, CA, for a week now. There are big posters at the edges of town proclaiming that Newark has zero tolerance for illegal fireworks. And then they have big stands dotting town that sell "safe-and-sane" (though they don't advertise that part) fireworks with these same posters on them. Even at the civic center. Cognitive

Same thing this year. Apparently last year I failed to take note of the word "illegal" in the billboard. I'm going to take it to mean that everything that I saw, everything that was tolerated, was not illegal. Things far more spectacular than sparklers (I can see aerial displays out the window from the desk where I'm typing this), which is often the limit in more prudish places.

Watering the lawn just in case...
