i don't know what to do. suddenly i am very interested in scientific computing and the next moment i am wondering if it is right. or whether i should go with machine learning theory. omg. my head is getting heavy as i think and read about all these ( Read more... )

Look at the quote that you put up on the right hand side...

"You have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future." Just go with what you think excites you more.

In any case, even if its the wrong choice you would have learnt something you wouldn't have learnt otherwise. And what is life if everything you do is right?

As an afterthought, maybe it's advisable to check out what the prof does. I really don't like people who use other people's theory/mthd, apply on different things and call that research. The prof must at least know his stuff well.

No, using other people's theory to apply on different things is PRECISELY research. Whether in theory or applied fields, there is ALWAYS a heavy reuse of technology or techniques.

There is also nothing wrong about it, as long as you add on some value, some bit of scientific knowledge.
