Standarized Mess

I don't enjoy standardized tests...although I suppose I'd be hard-pressed to find somebody who really does. I have always performed average or below and I never feel it is an accurate representation of my potential. I dislike the fact that my ability to discern Electric Field lines and organic amine reactions will determine where I can study ( Read more... )

My roommate Allison just got a book to help her study for the her graduate school exam, and it's fucking awesome. It basically says "Hey. This test is not all it's crakced up to be. It doesnt actually measure you intellegence. Reading a book like this doesnt make you more intelligent. It makes you get a better score. Think of it as a game. A game, that, with practice, you will get really realy good at." It also went on to make fun of the people that have to sit in a room and think of questions to put on a standardized test. Basically, it was ultra comforting to her, because it was like "Relax. It's a test. Not a measure of your worth. Here are some tricks that you should know." So I say relax bra. Practice a bunch and do your best, but don't sweat it. You will do great ( ... )

I think I'd like something like that. I wish I had time to read anything other than this crap but soon enough....soon enough. I guess I could always be sitting in a worse place so relatively speaking I'm doing aight.

I really like how Chef says "Children" when he sings that song. "I'm gonna make love to you CHILDREN." I had heard about the stroke and that he didn't really care about how South Park presented their satire but all those quotes from Matt Stone and Trey Parker seem weird if that's the case. I love Comedy Central drama!

If anything, I think people are reading TOO far into V. They claim it's political messages are aimed directly at the US, when it's not. The comic (or novel, whatever it was) was aimed at a shoddy British Parliament (the name of the Prime Minister of the time escapes me) some years back. The fact that any of the undertones coincide with our government is coincidental, though I'm sure the Wachowski Bros. gave it a little spin :)

The idea of devolution to facism (dystopias, etc.) is nothing new, although you're right, it wasn't created specifically for American political commentary. I know it's been changed at least somewhat to make it more applicable to the U.S. but I don't think the timing is coincidence. I hope people read too much into it even if that wasn't the intention, although I doubt a film is a sufficient slap in the face for society en masse. Now a well-produced made-for-TV movie with marionettes...
