America's First Murderer?

So, many people believe that John Billington was America's first murderer. (Check out the podcast - it's awesome! Thanks to jon_chance for the rec!)

I disagree. I think he was the first person to murder a white person on American soil (perhaps - some people do believe that Vikings may have also discovered the Americas). I am supposedly related to this " ( Read more... )

What do you define as "American Soil"? Does pre-declaration of independence count as American? Or are we just calling everything within the current bounds of the US "American soil" no matter how far back we go? And of course, you need to define "first murderer as "first documented murderer" don't you?

The person who has been pegged by people other than me as "America's First Murderer" is, yes, the first person on record killing another white person.

Fuck Columbus Day for all I care. I don't even get the damned holiday off. I understand the interest in remembering and honoring the very important aspects of Columbus' trips--the fact that the world turned out to be round is still something that some idiots debate, so for that much at least, I thank him. But otherwise? Meh.
