Even if we have the habit of letting the dishes run a little long, once we've decided they ought to go, we get rid of them quick. Well, my mum and I do. After my spurt of rearrange earlier I crashed and took a nap, so my mum did most of the dishes. I'll clear up the rest once the ones in the washer are done drying. Why my mother insists upon

Dishwashers are mostly to sanitize. You really are supposed to wash the dishes before putting them in (no matter what the commercials say) though if it truly is a crap of a dishwasher, then yeah- it's better to just wash by hand. :/

::shrug:: I'm sure there are worse dishwashers in the world. It's just old and of the cheap kind they put in cheap apartments. Mostly I wonder what it's doing that I was lacking when I didn't have a dishwasher at my apartment....

Blasting the dishes with soap and hot water mostly. The chemicals in dish washer soap are to sanitize it (in theory) other than that, nothing much.
