Thanks! I agree that poetry should be more fluid. I really like Japanese poetry because it has unique rhythm patterns, but is not afraid to break the rules. I often think that I should get into haiku more, because they can be a great way to express a lot in a tiny space. Also, people can use haiku to express daily things in a very fun way. The author Takuboku Ishikawa has a very strange and interesting collection of poetry called Sad Toys. He writes poetry about all kinds of totally random daily things like his landlady and his medicine. It definitely was different.
While I am on the subject, I highly recommend the book Essays in Idleness by Yoshida Kenko. It is another Japanese book, but prose. Actually, it is a collection of short, totally random musings, memories, proverbs, and thoughts. He goes from talking about how a kid at the temple got a cooking pot temporarily stuck on his head to launching into a serious meditation on the principles of Buddhism. It was very witty and fun, but there were some thoughtful parts, too

now I lay me down to sleep
pray the Lord my soul to keep
Verses with free or even "zero-rythm" are also poetry, I think.
