Oh hello awkward.

Interracial couple denied marriage license in Louisiana.

This would be hilarious if it this is hilarious because it is 2009.

Justice of the Peace Keith Bardwell said that his reasoning is that the offspring of interracial couplings often have a hard time being accepted by the two cultural groups (no shit, Sherlock.)** Rather ( Read more... )

My personal favorite was when he said he wasn't racial, he just didn't believe in mixing the races.

I suppose he thinks separate but equal was a good idea.

He's a moron.. BUt there are a lot of morons out there.

It's not like the couples can't marry in LA, just not by that tard.

Which is, honestly, probably for the best because he seems like a twat.

...

I think there were states up through the late-70s (early 80s even?) that didn't allow, legally, interracial marriage... so I mean, if he's been at it for 30+ years, he's likely been around when it wasn't legal. Old dogs?

...

That all said... there is no way in fuck that guy is ever going to marry a gay couple, no matter how legal or same-race it is, I just know it.

Loving v. Virginia was passed in 1967, though. I think that it's been around longer than this guy has been a Justice of the Peace (he said he had like a 35 year career, right?

God, I would not want him to be officiating any wedding. He'd be like giving you the evil eye the whole time. I'm not superstitious or anything but that's still bad juju. It's like when family members who simply do not approve of your wedding attend anyway and stand there and pout.
