a to ?otd: 80,000 miles plus last year. Just not quite enough to get me 1k status on the airline. All this in the seven months from July to December since I didn't fly in the first five months of the year due to $DAUGHTER being born in April (I turned down an invitation from a group in Sydney to pay for me to go to a conference there in February - travel a significant distance abroad while $WIFE is 7+ months pregnant? Sorry, no, no matter how much I wanted to go). Cities: Pittsburgh, Copenghagen, Berlin, Reading (UK), Leicester, Sheffield, New York, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing, Amsterdam.
Missed a city, and one of the craziest trips. I went to Paris (from Tokyo) for a one day event. I spent two nights in Paris, just about two days in total. Travel time was half the time at the destination. The comment from some of my UK friends was that there's not way they'd fly to Tokyo for a one day event and spend only two days there. The only reason for the second day is the times the flights leave, which is in the evening. Had I not been leaving $WIFE taking care of a six month old I'd have tried to make plans for a longer trip, perhaps including a UK side trip even if only to catch up with family and friends near London by Eurostar, or a work-related visit to others in Paris or Brussels. The other crazy trip was the Pittsburgh->Copenhagen->Berlin four conferences, three cities, two week round-the-world trip. I came down with Shingles towards the end of that one, which will teach me not to be quite so blase about the health effects of repeated jet-lag.
