Friday’s catastrophic earthquake in northeastern and eastern Japan has been affecting the country’s entertainment industry, as amusement facilities, concert halls, theaters and museums look to double check the safety of their facilities.
Oriental Land Co closed Chiba-based Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea, Japan’s most popular amusement facilities, on Saturday to carry out emergency safety checks. The operator said the closure will probably last about 10 days.
In Tokyo’s Akihabara district, the operator of AKB Theater, a concert hall for exclusive use by all-girl pop idol group AKB48, said the same day the facility will be closed until Tuesday for a similar reason.
Organizers of a number of concerts, musicals, kabuki plays, exhibitions and other events across the nation have also announced cancellations.
