Very Early Saturday Morning

Apr 29, 2006 09:21

Janet woke up very, very, very early and yawned and stretched. And climbed out of her very big bed and got dressed in her favoritest red sweater ever and went looking for breakfast.

Ooooooh. Breakfast was leftover Easter candy! Yummy!

"Morning! Morning! Morning!" Elizabeth bounced on her big, huge bed, candy already in hand.

And around her mouth.

"Hi, Liz! Hi!" Janet climbed up onto Liz's bed and started waving with one hand. She shoved a handful of jelly beans in her mouth with the other and started jumping on Liz's bed.

Elizabeth waved her chocolatey hand. "It's Saturday! Yay! I want to ride my bike!"

"You should ride your bike!" said Janet. She nodded and bounced and ate more candy. "In the hallways?"

"Everybody likes licorice!" said Janet, giggling and jumping especially high. Well, as high as a six year old who maybe looks a couple of years younger than six can.

"Yay! They can have the icky black stuff because that's gross," Elizabeth nodded decisively. "Want to come to the park with me?" Her eyes widened with glee. "Maybe they'll be swings there!"

Janet wrinkled her nose and squinched her eyes shut and nodded. "I bet ducks like icky black licorice." She opened her eyes and stared at Liz. "Oooh. We can explore on the way out to the park too! And the swings!"

"КЛЕВЫЙ!" Elizabeth exclaimed. "That's cool in Russian. My babushka is teaching me to talk Russian as well as English!"

"I think you have a neat babushka," said Janet. She frowned. "What's a babushka?"

Elizabeth giggled. "She's my grandmother! Not my Nanna, because Nanna is my daddy's mommy!"

"Oh. Okay, then!" She offered Liz one of her favoritest red jelly beans. "My grandmommy doesn't speak Russian."

Elizabeth beamed as she took a red jelly bean. "Thank you, Janet!" She screwed up her face in concentration. "My grandmother was born in Russia, and then she moved to... France. And then she met by granddad and they came here and lived happily ever after!"

"You're welcome!" Janet beamed at Liz. "That sounds really, really neat," she said, eating a handful of jelly beans. And now you're going to school here, which is even better! Because you're lots of fun."
