Hurray! The commission has added a one year stay of execution on the CPSIA -- the provisions are still in effect, but testing is not mandatory on most items. So we're in the clear until Feb 10, 2010, by which time the guidelines should be much clearer and based in actual science, instead of scaremongering ( Read more... )

Thank you for posting this. This is really scary. I started hearing bits and pieces of this last week but hadn't seen the whole story yet.

It's a tremendously scary thing :( I mean, there's no way in hell they can enforce it with their current (and even future) staff, but still, it's the law, and if we try to comply, we go out of business. And if we don't try to comply, we're breaking the law and are liable for $$$$. Crazymaking all around.

I've been reading for hours. It never ceases to amaze me how the gov't can write laws and documents that are so confusing that not even their own staff is sure what the law actually means!

Isn't it awful? Everyone in the babywearing community is absolutely scrambling, and people who've written their legislators are either getting canned non-answers, or no help at all. So frustrating.
