So a character I'm working on is a fox-shape shifter (there will be some borrowing of the Japanese Kitsune idea- which works well for me since there is a great deal of contradictory information there

I vote Air because it's not just associated with communication (which a shape shifter would need in order to communicate with the two selves), but because it's associated with wit, swift thinking, and at times grace. : )

I would say Earth because a lot of the old myths associate foxes with the earth element.

I voted air because of the mischief/communication element, but I also think fire, because in Japan the Kitsune are fire-elementals (also because of the mischief element).
