Computer-y question

Okay, so, the agency I tutor through sends out a spreadsheet to me if I make an error on my paperwork, or if they think something needs to be confirmed before they can process my paycheck. Fine, let me at it, right?

Problem: just this month they started sending in .xlsx format, which is the 2007 Excel format. I don't have Excel anyway, I use ( Read more... )

Try Tex-Edit Plus. http://www.tex-edit.com/

I make no promises it will work, but I've used it to convert just about anything to anything for years.

Open Office and Microsoft Office are not always cross compatible. Another option would be to try the Apple Works that should have come with the Mac. It sometimes works where nothing else does, I've found.

And one last option would be to try opening the doc online via google docs. It works pretty well, I've discovered.

I put "OpenOffice xlsx" into Google search. It threw up a lot of hits, of which the first one looks as though it might do what you want:
