I've never liked the traditional love triangle, the triangle where a man or woman is torn between two opposite-gender romantic candidates. This triangle is a simple question: Which man/woman will our hero/heroine choose?
Best one ever is Ianto/Jack/Gwen on Torchwood, because Gwen stays with her fiancé, Jack shacks up with Ianto, but Ianto & Gwen are also BFFs who will gang up on Jack if need be. So it's literally a triangle of *love*, where everyone cares about & respects the others. <3
That one cracks me up because it mostly exists in the heads of the fans. I mean, I think Jack/Gwen/Rhys is a very real thing, if primarily from Rhys' perspective. But...how often do Gwen and Ianto act as if they are in competition for Jack? There is that moment in Something Borrowed where Ianto steps in when Jack and Gwen are dancing...it's open to interpretation but I do get a sense of insecurity from Ianto there. I can't think of any other times. But basically, Jack has romantic feelings for two of his employees, and usually both of them have no problem with that. Ianto was jealous of John Hart, so he does get jealous over Jack. But he and Gwen don't seem to perceive themselves as threats or in competition.
So I can see that: A triangle of love instead of a love triangle. We need more of those.
