Angel drabble: Tarnished [Lindsey/Darla]

A/N: I wrote this sometime ago, but never got around to posting it b/c I didn’t actually like it. I’ve just re-read it, tweaked some bits, and well… here it is. XD
TARNISHED
When Lindsey hands her the cup, all Darla can think of is his wrist just a breath away from her mouth, bulging with veins full of live, warm blood. If he really loved her, he would offer her something more substantial than this cold, insipid drink. If he really loved her, he would give himself over completely and consider it the epitome of bliss.
Perhaps she could even turn him and preserve that puppy-dog infatuation of his for all eternity.
But no. She needs him as he is now.
She needs him to care and to help her, and for that sweet Lindsey must retain his soul, however tarnished it may be. He is special, this one. He is too good to be truly evil, yet too rotten to ever turn into a pathetic do-gooder.
Darla raises her hand weakly and brushes her fingers through Lindsey’s hair. She liked it better when it was longer. She is sure he would grow it again if she told him, but there really is no point.
She can feel his body tense under her touch. Such sweet, boyish devotion. Pathetic, honestly. And yet she needs him as much as he needs her now. Even though neither of them will be able to give each other what they want above all else. Even though it will always be about someone else.
Her darling boy.
