NEW NEW STORY
Episode 2x01, “New Earth”
Loneliness is a terrible thing. Deep inside every human being knows it, but sometimes it takes them thousands of years to realize it.
Loneliness is a disease money cannot cure, and Cassandra is glad that she doesn’t die alone. Oh no, she dies in the arms of a beautiful and familiar person, proving herself and the world that there is still so much humanity left in her.
Episode 2x02, “Tooth and Claw”
Werewolves! How could it not be fun? Maybe there are also vampires lurking about? Oh, that’s just priceless!
It is only when the TARDIS finally whooshes through the Time Vortex, carrying them away from Scotland, 1879, that Rose remembers seeing men ripped apart by the vicious wolf and thinks briefly that Queen Victoria may have been right. How long can it last?
She shakes the spooky thoughts off, though. Forever, if need be. She wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Episode 2x03, “School Reunion”
Sarah Jane knew him as a grumpy old man whom she had formed an unlikely friendship with and an eccentric oddity in a scarf that had abandoned her years ago on Earth. Years later, she still couldn’t deny that she had once had the time of her life with the Doctor.
And there he was again! Sarah’s heart leapt with joy, but her mind was racing. He was here. He looked so… young, all sharp features and hair standing on end and that charming, lunatic smile. And the long since locked away feelings were coming back. But even though there would always be a place for him in Sarah’s world, she knew that there was no more place for her in his world. It was time to move on.
Episode 2x04, “The Girl in the Fireplace”
So much for the Doctor being a hero. So this, this is a man of Rose’s dreams? Wandering off three thousand years back to save some marquise in France and leaving them here to-? Best not to think about it. The point it, that’s what Mickey could very well have done (but mind you, never did). Now, how about coming back to save them?
Episode 2x05, “Rise of the Cybermen”
He understands her so very well. She misses her father. And she has a chance to speak to him again - and wouldn’t he have felt the same if he had got the chance to speak to any Time Lord? He imagines a parallel Gallifrey, just a brief flight of fancy, and both his hearts clench in pain, fleeting, lemon-sharp, the longing for what is never to come. Pete Tyler smiles from the holographic posters, rich, successful, alive. The Doctor cannot deny Rose this one last chance before they leave the world with Pete in it forever.
Episode 2x06, “Age of Steel”
Mickey made his choice a long time ago even though he didn’t realize it at once. Moreover, Rose made it for him when she chose the Doctor. If she could choose the stars and not feel guilty about it, then he could swap the worlds just the same. At least someone here needs him. He understands Rose finally. He wants to grow, he wants to act, he wants to make up to this world for every loss it has borne. Besides, it was well worth staying to see the look on Jake’s face when the TARDIS dematerialized.
Episode 2x07, “The Idiot’s Lantern”
Tommy believes in freedom. Tommy believes in choice. He believes in justice and he believes that one man can change the course of history. Maybe he doesn’t think of it on such a grand scale, but when it comes to someone’s personal history, it is certainly true. All it takes is one word of defiance, just one firm, confident ‘no’ - and domestic tyrants fall.
And it is because Tommy believes in all this, he gives his father a chance. He is a better person and he hopes he can help his father become a better person.
