Do you think what we think we know about solar wind is a good analogy or comparision to the idea of chi/qi?

Of course, as long as it is understood that the link is metaphorical. Qi originally meant "Steam coming off cooking rice" (which was thought to have life-giving qualities), and later on meant "breath" and eventually something like "The Force".

Since the solar wind is metaphorically very similar to "steam coming off cooking rice", it makes abundant sense to compare the two. As long as you leave it at that, a metaphor.

Because I do tend to get a little crazy when people start attributing quantum effects to fully grown humans.

I guess, but you can only work with the concept as a metaphor anyway. I will add the most important explanation I can to that, there is such a thing as solar wind, but there is no such thing as Ki. Solar wind is measurable and has been measured in repeatable experiments. There is no such thing as Ki, every attempt to measure it has failed and every proper study on it's claimed effects have failed to detect anything. One of the first lessons you get at our Dojo is there is no such thing as Ki, so only ever treat it as a metaphor, not as something real.
