He smelled something burning. With a moan he began to roll over and raised a hand to his forehead, leaving his eyes shut. It didn’t smell to the point of panic so he just lay there enjoying the quiet sounds of the birds outside the window. Until he heard a clashing in the doorway; his eyes shot open and turned to the entry.
Tonks stood there with a piece of toast in her mouth as she carried a tray into the room. When she saw him awake she gasped and the toast fell out of her mouth falling into the butter on the tray.
She looked down at it forlornly before turning back to him. “Good morning.” She said timidly.
“Good morning” Remus replied trying to smile through a yawn.
She gave a small smile in return. “I was supposed to wake you up with breakfast already in front of you…and I wasn’t supposed to drop my toast…”
Remus smiled again, “it’s alright love, come over here…” he motioned to her. Very carefully she began walking to the edge of the bed, with his help she set it in his lap.
“I’m sorry it’s not much…”
Remus looked down at the tray. There was toast and a small quiche with some syrup. “It’s wonderful.” She smiled and leaned down to kiss him; with a smile as well, Remus kissed her chastely.
As she pulled away there was a twinkle in her eye and she carefully climbed over him and the tray, curling next to him and reaching for her butter smeared toast. She scrunched her nose and grabbed a napkin to wipe some of it off. “The toast is decent when not covered in butter. I promise.”
“It’s very difficult to ruin toast, I admit…”
“Hey!” Tonks replied. “The quiche is good too!” Remus gave her a dubious look. “Well, I liked it.”
He smiled and kissed her cheek. “Can I ask what special occasion this is?”
The mysterious twinkle returned to her eyes. “Just the fact that we’re finally able to eat in our new house. I felt the kitchen needed to be broke in.”
A fearful look flashed across Remus’ face. “Is the kitchen still intact?”
Tonks whacked him across the arm. “Yes it is!” she said indignantly. He smiled lightly and began to eat his food.
“Good, I’d hate to have to repaint…”
Tonks bumped his shoulder in retaliation, grabbing a piece of toast off the tray. With her mouth half full she began talking again. “I’ll be a little later then usual tonight…I’ve got an appointment to go too, but it shouldn’t be to long.”
Remus gave her an inquisitive look but shrugged. “Alright, I’m actually supposed to meet Harry tonight as well.”
Tonks gave a slight smile. “Maybe we’ll see each other in passing?”
“Maybe.” Remus replied taking a sip of his coffee. Looking up at the clock he grinned. “Dear, aren’t you supposed to at work?”
Tonks looked up at the clock and swore. In a flurry she was out of the bed and grabbing her wand. Leaning over she gave Remus a quick kiss. “Love you. See you tonight!” and before he could respond she apparated away.
As he finished his breakfast Remus carefully put the tray aside and got up to look in his expanded but still modest closet. Quickly he picked out a shirt and slacks. Placing them neatly on the bed he headed to the shower summoning the towel to him. With a smile he turned on the water for the first time in their house as husband and wife.
