after finishing the scarf I fiddled around with knitting a narrow sample gauge with larger needles, then got the idea to try to find/adapt the houndstooth pattern to a smaller repeat. a teddy bear-sized scarf is a great way to use up the small balls of yarn left over from the real scarf. :)
