Your progression has to be the most impressive I've seen! I absolutely love the progression in coloring especially, what you're doing now is stunning. And ahhh so flattered to be an influence! :')))

Aww, thanks, Shawna! I'm never sure when I look at it if I've actually improved or if I just want to pretend, so I'm glad it's not the latter.
And you deserve it; you've been so helpful. ♥ ♥

YOU HAVE COME SO FAR. SO FREAKING FAR.
The best evolution of all is your colours. At the beginning of the year you appeared to cling to brightness, but then you embraced the dark and everything was magic. I do love the depth that you give your icons now, with either colour or textures or both. It's stupendous. I also love that you've continually played with text and composition, which is so impressive because some people tend to shy away from those if they believe they can't "do it", not that you believe that, but the fact that you've embraced playing with them to improve is wonderful. I especially, especially love the text on the fourth December icon. The way it kind of blurs vertically without becoming too unreadable is fantastic!

THANK YOU SO MUCH. Embracing the dark, hee. XD I do see what you mean, though, and I don't know why I used to be so black-o-phobic. (now I just sound racist. OOPS).
To be honest, I'm just glad some of my experiments and composition and text have worked, because I want to get to the point where I can "do it".

♥ Aww, thanks so much, Sari! Though I don't know why you are jealous because you are still, like, 500x better than me. :P

Wow!! This post is so inspiring, you've really solidified your style so well this year. I love how you went from sharper, brighter icons to your current style which is sooooo lovely with the dark but saturated coloring, soo bright and now they have this lovely softness to them, almost like they were done with watercolors! So pretty. And I love seeing your progress with text, which I don't think I've ever commented on before but I reaaallly like what you are doing with it now, I'm amazing at how you keep the words so clear while they are so small and I love the way to place them over people's faces, so neat! I'd also say your use of lighting has really improved, your icons have sooo much depth now

<333333333 HAPPY 2012!!!!

<333 Thanks so much, bb! You always leave me the nicest comments. :) I'm glad my text is improving because al;kdfjaldk I have so much trouble with it sometimes and I've gotten a lot of people saying it's my weakest thing and so I never quite knew what to do.

HAPPY 2012 TO YOU AS WELL!

SORRY I TOOK THIS AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO RAMBLE AT YOU ABOUT TEXT

Hmmmmm well! I think text is a lot of makers' weakest thing (I know it is mine) because there really no in between with it. With things like cropping or lighting, they can be just okay or a bit boring but the icon can still be awesome because other elements make up for it, but text is SO attention grabbing that if it doesn't work it has a much broader negative effect on the icon. Plus, it is easy enough to just not use text on an icon. BUT I think text can add a lot to certain icons and so I admire you for continuing to play with it! I think what you are trending towards now with very balanced, small text that makes a square or rectangle shape on the icon works very well. Like I said, I admire how small you make the font without losing readability! It's kind of an update of the old tiny text trend, almost. Anyway, I really like it because it definitely adds more emotion to your icons.

This icon is a perfect example, it adds so much to the icon in many different ways. ( ... )

LJ just marked this as spam, showing that it clearly does not know what it's talking about because I love your rambles!
Thanks so much for giving me feedback about my text. :) I have been working so hard to figure out how to fit it on icons/what my text style is, you have no idea. XD
As for that first icon, putting the emphasis on 'and,' that was actually supposed to evoke a more ~biblical~ sort of feeling or something. I don't know. XD I'd just been reading parts of the Bible for a research paper and then that happened.
But anyhow thanks for the ramble! It was wonderful. :)

Whoa, it's crazy that you started out with 200 icons as your goal, and now you're so much more prolific! It's really cool seeing how dramatically your coloring has evolved throughout the year. It went from more muted blues and creams towards lots of vibrant yellows and greens and some dark purples, too! And have I told you lately how I enjoy your text work? LOVE the placement, sizing, and spacing in the Topher text as well as in that Sherlock icon. THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR JOURNEY WITH YOUR MEMBERS, AND FOR LETTING ME BE PART OF IT! :)

Wow, thanks, Kim! My text used to be awful, so I'm glad all my work with it has started to pay off. :) Thanks for making yourself a part of it; I've greatly enjoyed interacting with you these past few months! ♥
