Back from Cardiff. Ready for a nap, I think, as soon as I'm caught up on the internet. Millibrits are awesome, we know this. And so are

Carlos Zambrano (the guy who was pitching for Cubs when you went to the game last year, see icon) threw a no-hitter against Houston in a game that was played in Milwaukee because of Hurricane Ike messing things up in Houston. It was a Houston home game, but Milwaukee is only 90 miles from Chicago so the stadium was packed with Cubs fans. The so-called neutral venue itself was special - it's only happened 3 other times in baseball history. As for the no-hitter, that's not quite as rare, but still incredibleit means he was awesome and no opponents got on base by hitting the ball (only by him walking them or because of a fielder making an error). Cubs haven't had a pitcher do that since 1972.
I think that's everything, at least as far as I'm concerned.
I just can't help but think that the dozens of Brewers fans, already annoyed at how their team is once again sinking into nothingness, were really, really annoyed that their stadium hosted a no-hitter by the Cubs and not by their team.
I dunno. Possibly true, but (a) I don't think any of them were actually there. It was just a game that was in their stadium. It seemed to be all Cubs fans. There was no Bernie Brewer or sausage race. Meh.
And (b) I don't care. I don't like the Brewers, and I think they're going to scrape the wild card ahead of Philly anyway. Which means that I also predict that your boys will capture the NL East. I hope they do anyway. I always used to hate the Mets when I was a Braves fan, but now I'm at worst ambivalent towards them, They've played some very entertaining baseball this season. The bullpen situation is obviously a big concern, but I think Ayala will pull it together. Yesterday was just his one allowable 'bad day'.
Other than the AL West (and hopefully the NL Central), this is going to be one of the most exciting stretches in MLB I can remember for some time. Am looking forward to seeing how things pan out over the next two weeks.
Let's see.... the U.S. Gulf Coast got bent over by Hurricane Ike, gas prices jumped, and Tiny Fey played a better Sarah Palin on SNL then Sarah Palin will ever be able to do. (In other words, the parody > the original.)
