The Queer Stork Makes a Visit

Jan 24, 2007 13:00

I just got a text from Khara that copies of Beth's book, Shouldering Zero, came with UPS today. It's her first book and I am so proud of her -- not to mention this one is partially dedicated to me. Celebration is in order!

Her chapbook Anything to Avoid Becoming Harold should also be out in the coming couple of months.

poetry, beth

I always get a good reaction when I wear it out.

In the old days, 1992, I had the ubiquitous "Nobody knows I'm a lesbian". It was fun to wear to the mall in Raleigh.

I'll tell her tomorrow night when we raise glass to her getting a place between covers!

You can buy a copy on Amazon here: Shouldering Zero.

I hope you are doing well, Bubba!

Anything to Avoid Becoming Harold is a fantastic title! Especially considering my girlfriend and I have started talking about kids (in the distant future) and have decided, should we have a boy, the name will be Harold (for her father).

That collection is one of my favorites of hers, having a lot of humor and burning holes in the title character, a schmuck who enjoys undeserved low-brow success. Keep your eyes peeled: The cover art is genious, too!

And what will your daughter be named?

(I agreed to "father" Beth & Khara's child when they decide to have one. I'm surprised I was actually excited to say "Yes".)

Well, Joe Massey has agreed to "father" ours, though I'm not sure if he realized I was mostly serious when I asked. I'd love for my best friend to do it, but I just don't know if I can trust some things considering the number of men he's been with is probably pushing the 4-digit mark. If she's a girl she'll be Jane Harriet. And the last name (because ours hyphened is just awful -- Guess-Colen or Colen-Guess) will combine the two of us "Coalesce."

"Coalesce" is great, apropos!

Thanks, fella! It really is good news. Especially when you get used to thinking you and your ilk are shut out of that kind of work ... one of "your own" breaking into that arena is really exhilirating. :)

Yeah, I imagine its pretty inspiring! Now when are we going to get a book out of you? I've always thought your writing was really great.

*honored* Thank you, Buddy. Odd: I was just constructing the idea of a post where I tried to sort through what my real strengths in writing are and what my remaining writing dreams are. The goal would be to find where my desires match best with my strengths so that I could isolate a fun project to work on ... and finish! :)

Any advice is welcome, and your kind words already warm the cheeks.
