I know you don't fuck with Sallie Mae. I've heard all of your stories about how much of a bitch she is. How she'll fuck you hard if you don't pay her. I dunno why I've been slack and am getting deep in to trouble with her ( Read more... )

I TOTALLY feel your pain. When I graduated in May my loans were scheduled to be over $600 a month. But I called them and got the same deal that you did, lower payments for two years then an increase. But still, combined my loans are almost $500/month. It's totally balls man.

If you call them on Monday, maybe you could ask for the income sensitive plan. I'm not sure if you'll qualify, but if you do it could be an option.

I say that we mutiny. I'll grab my pitchfork.

Have you used any of your forbearances? If you have federal loans through them you can apply for an economic hardship forbearance on those. (It doesn't apply to private loans.)

When you talk to them, explain your situation to them and tell them that you just don't have the money.

My account is 130+ days overdue thousands of dollars, but technically I'm still "good." As long as you send them some kind of money every now and again, you're technically still "paying" on the loan, and they can't really do anything.

You can probably talk them into lowering it again for you. Just remain adamant that what they're asking is impossible.

You can always give me a call if you want to talk about it. At this point, I'm practically a hostage negotiator when it comes to them. <3

I would say start early because Sallie Mae is the biggest bitch I've ever had to deal with! They do all they can to fuck you up, changing your loan amounts of you and everything. That's what they did to me and I was super confused! They also do not make things easy when you talk to their customer service, so be prepared to be super frustrated! But in the end you only have so much money that you can give them, so there isn't anything you can do. So if you say, I can only give you this much a month, then that's all there is to it. They can't collect money from you that you don't have.

whatever you do, don't take the option of getting a lower rate by allowing them access to your bank account. they dont understand the concept of, you take this amount ONCE a month. seriusly, they were set up to take $240 a month from me and took over $600 one month, and it was my account that i never touch except to have their money deposited into automatically and i got a bounce notice. i cussed out some poor indian girl and her manager and told them there was no way in hell they are allowed access any longer. i'll take my chances being late. also i want to know how i can have paid $5000 over the last two years and still owe the same amount. dont try having another company buy your loans to save you, they're not allowed thanks to obama and the education departments new policy of no one can buy/sell loans except for them and they deal exclusively with sallie mae!
