So, we've all been wondering about the preponderance of story-inappropriate mustaches in these illustrations. But what about the couple of tales where Bertie actually does have a soup-strainer?

Raleigh: "Oh dear, this story calls for Bertie growing a mustache, but I have already been drawing him with a mustache. What is an illustrator to do! . . . hmmm, I will just draw in something else Jeeves would disapprove of, to symbolize the mustache. Now, what would Jeeves disapprove of? . . . . . . . BAGPIPES AND A KILT."

That last one of Jeeves... he looks like a miffed pigeon! He's sporting an underbite, a bald top, a ridiculously large mid-section, and a rather healthy amount of, er, junk in the trunk, if I may say so. I really have to wonder where these artists get some of their notions of Jeeves. He is never canonically described as a fat old man! Au contraire!
