Should I be offended or flattered?

My Life Drawing professor initially assumed I had traced my drawing of the human skeleton instead of free-handing it from our example image because it was "too perfect." You can't just throw that word around at a SCAD student. We freak right the fuck out ( Read more... )

One of my best friends, tashiya_03, is an illustration major, and could definitely tell you more about what to expect in those particular fields. She's really nice, so I recommend asking her.

SCAD, like any school, has its share of ups and downs. You're going to hear awesome reviews, you're going to hear shitty put-downs. It's all a matter of what each student experienced individually, so I can really only tell you my particular pros and cons. You can get a little background by checking out my SCAD and personal LJ tags.

First off, I really love the professors in my major, and from what I've heard from my friends in other majors, they are equally as impressive in other majors. Most of the teachers you're going to come across in your field really know their stuff. In fact, this quarter is the first time I've had a truly horrible prof., and she's an art history teacher, so sometimes you just have to take your lumps on your lecture classes (like math, science, history, public speaking, etc ( ... )

As far as Savannah being unsafe, my friend and her boyfriend were attacked by a black gang on Bay Street (one of the most "safe" tourism streets) just a week ago. October is a wonderful little thing called "gang initiation month," and they have a great little "beat up a SCAD student" pre-req. People get held at gunpoint for money on Broughton all the time- another safe street supposedly. I'm not trying to scare you off, because these kinds of problems exist in any city. But really, you can avoid all these sorts of things as long as you're not an idiot. Be smart about what you do, where you go, who you go with, and when you do it.

SCAD is also a money-grubbing organization. The could run on donations alone, but they will use any excuse to suck more money out of students. Get a new program in film and digital media? Yay, raise tuition! The president is a horse-riding fan, so now we have an equestrian major... AT AN ART SCHOOL. And guess who pays for it? Oh, but we don't have enough funds to keep the basketball teams anymore? Ok. WTF. ( ... )
