Wah, I hope your flu doesn't last long! (I am a bad girl...I have never gotten the flu shot. On the other hand...I've only had the flu once in my whole life. So far. *glances around nervously* But yeah, I heard the shot was particularly ineffective this year.)

Heh, ordinarily, if you were heading south, I'd figure out some way to hijack your plans and get you to come to Kentucky along the way, but alas. I've never been to New Orleans either--hope the trip is fun and relaxing! :D

Blargh, it's been nasty. Now everyone's sick except Dad. :P (I'm surprised you haven't caught anything particularly nasty, though, working at a bank and everything. You must have some kinda awesome immune system by now!)

I knoooooow. Dad was even saying, as he was looking at the maps, that this would be the perfect trip to go through Louisville on the way home. He said we should tell you it would be a really good time to visit your family... *bg*

I kind of think flu shots are overrated :/ I mean, yeah, the flue sucks, but sometimes they advertise the shots like they're life or death (which, for some people, the flu probably is. But for everyone else?)

That said, though, I'm nervous of catching it myself. I don't get the aches and coughs, I get puking :/

I really hope you're able to go to New Orleans because it sounds like it'll be a blast :D

Yeah, it tends to be most necessary for those who're quite old or quite young... The thing is, for them group immunity can help too. (I.e. the fewer other people are getting it, the less chance of it getting passed to a caregiver of someone vulnerable, and the less opportunity for mutation to forms that aren't protected against. In my family, we always had to be sure to get it because my brother had leukemia, and then had a severe allergic reaction to the shot himself, so with Dad exposed to so much at work... trying to cut down on risks ( ... )

Heh, I always get the stomach flu and regular flu mixed up, because even when I was around those with the flu I'd still end up with the stomach flu (like last year. There was a lot of the flu going around, but I still ended up with the stomach flu instead).

I think my main issue with the flu shot is the way it's sometimes presented in commercials and on the news (well, at least our news, I don't know about everywhere else) as practically the next polio and that to not get the shot was to contribute to a plague. In other words, lots and lots of scare tactics (but, well, it is the news), and I think it made me resentful toward the shot (especially since I knew people who got sick because of the shot, and still get sick when they renew the shot).

(And not that I think the media shouldn't try to push the shot. It should. I just wish they wouldn't come across as so... panicky about it, I guess).

LOL, your body must have Amazing Mutant Powers. (Sadly, one of the less useful powers... converting any other virus into stomach flu. XD)

Ah, I see. I don't watch much actual TV (as opposed to Netflix), so I don't know if the scare tactics are more specific to your area or not but bleh, yeah, I can definitely see how that would get obnoxious. It's funny how that sort of thing can activate a person's obstinate streak, isn't it? *g* I wonder how much the panic-tactic is influenced by trying to counteract the ongoing not-at-all-based-in-science fears regarding other, far more essential vaccines... But even if that's the case, a little more straightforward facts and a little less flailing would seem more in order.

Thanks. *hugs* With everyone except my dad sick, we've been a pretty pathetic lot around here.

I'm soooooo sorry you came down with the flu. Ugh. I hope it's a milder case and that it doesn't sweep through the entire family. :( *hugs and chamomile tea*

I don't suppose your route south to "Nawlins" swings through southwest Missouri? (I'm... betting you'll be going down I-55, which makes far more sense, drat it.)

*hugs* Thanks. Heh, unfortunately, we've now all officially been knocked down by it except Dad. We may wind up leaving a day or two later than planned.

Neffie and I were just saying how much fun it'd be if we could work out a way to meet you on the way. Unfortunately, I think we are likely to be taking the most direct route possible, especially if we do wind up leaving late... but Dad said if you'd be interested we should find out what town you live in, at least, because we might be able to make it on the way, or on the way back. :D

Ack! I'm so sorry everybody got it. Ugh. Flu. Despicable organism.

I'll PM you with details about where exactly I live. :)
