Well, I wear vibram five fingers [snicker] as slippers at work, but those don't meet the respectable criteria. I've always found Rockport shoes to fit more like a tennis shoe that looks like a dress shoe, but that only works if you want something more like a tennis shoe than a slipper.

Ya, the "five fingers" are significantly more casual than I'm looking for. You're also quite right about the sneaker/slipper distinction - I enjoy thin flexible/soft soles.

Oh, then you might be interested in the Vivo Barefoot (or something else by their parent company, Terra Plana). I've been meaning to get a pair of these ever since I learned about them, but they're quite a bit more expensive than Fivefingers (and no one has ever complained about me wearing Fivefingers). I probably will get some if I end up in a client-facing role or want to be more dressy at some point in the future.

This is actually the very pair of shoes I'm looking to replace. My main complaint with them is actually the shoddy craftmanship. They are literally falling apart at the seams, after only a few months of really light wear. That's totally unacceptable, doubly so considering the price tag. Other milder complaints include the uncomfortable achilles tendon area and the less-than-professional-looking (but very comfortable) canvas material.

But yes, something along those lines is exactly what I am looking for.

I've had good luck with my Clarks. I can't recommend a specific shoe being the wrong gender but they make a good quality comfy shoe.

I don't have any recommendations, but if you find something let me know, as I've been looking for something similar.

I've heard good things about Hush Puppy shoes in terms of comfort, but I don't know if they have a minimal sole version.
