In Which Ruby runs into a Old Friend (Kind of)

Nov 13, 2008 22:33

The place itself hadn't been hard to find. Winchesters were usually pretty easy to track, generally speaking -- they stuck out like a sore thumb. Between Dean being covered in angel dust and Sam's demon blood, it was like a giant neon sign that was telling every demon within a hundred miles to either run far far away, or go in for the kill ( Read more... )

Lamia was enjoying his time in this vessel. The Winchester boys had no fucking clue that their precious friend Anna was walking around carrying one of the higher-level demons - a brother of Azazael's - under her skin. Lilith and the angels gave these boys far too much credit in his opinion. Dean knew the woman intimately but he was blind to the fact that she wasn't her normal self lately. Sam had been too consumed with Dean's time in the Pit to really listen to her cries for help, and everything was working perfectly.

Until that traitorous bitch Ruby had to come and screw everything up. Maintaining his cover as long as he could, he used Anna's tactical skills to his advantage, sliding in and twisting Ruby's arms behind her back before all but throwing her against the nearest wall as if to arrest her. "What the hell is your problem?"

Of course, this would be the perfect time for Sam to walk towards the bar, only to see the fight going on. He moved away from the guy at the pool table he was planning on hustling and literally rushing at the two women.

"Anna, let go of her!" Sam shouted, trying to push them apart.

"Anna let go of her?" And yes, that would be Dean, coming to Anna's defense. "Ruby started this, Sam. Not Anna."

"And I had a damn good reason too," Ruby replied, rolling her eyes slightly before, pushing back from the wall and slamming a kick to Anna's midsection. "Christo, you cross-dressing bastard."

And yes, she felt a little gross saying that herself. But the boys probably weren't going to believe her otherwise.

The kick sent Anna flying into a table nearby and the patrons of the bar quickly took notice. Lamia got Anna to her feet, the Christo having no effect. Instead her brow arched. "Ruby? Is that your name? I don't know what the hell your problem is, but I'd suggest backing off."

The plume of smoke finished billowing out from Anna's mouth, and the last they heard from Lamia was a whisper aimed Dean's way. "Ever wonder about the beautiful scar on her back, Dean? Did you ever really wonder?"

Once Lamia was completely gone from Anna's body, she dropped to the ground in a limp heap, her long brown hair spilling around her body.

As Anna fell limp, Sam did as well, groaning in pain as his head screamed at him. He stumbled back into Ruby, his eyes squeezed shut as his senses were now suddenly painful.

And he didn't realize his nose had started to bleed until he tasted it on his lips.

Dean went right to Anna's side, helping her sit up slowly as he did. "You okay? Anna? Can you hear me?"

Ruby, on the other hand, caught Sam as he fell back against her, keeping him close. She didn't need to say anything, she knew Sam would be okay. He just needed a little support.

Anna didn't respond at all to Dean, her body still limp in his arms. The tears had dried on her face and her chest failed to rise and fall.

As soon as she sat on the backseat of the Impala, Anna slumped against the doorframe, reaching out weakly to take the necklace. "What? No matching diamond earrings?" She joked with a half-smile as she fingered the necklace in her hand.

She'd take a better look at it after she'd gotten some sleep.
