After their tour of the stables with the lovely Miss Barlow, Butch helps Johnny up to
his room, leading him to a chair in the kitchen area while he himself goes to turn the gaslamps up.
The kitchen is clean, with no signs of food having been prepared in it recently; Butch has been taking most of his meals downstairs lately. It's not that he can't cook for himself, but this way he won't risk wasting money by burning food, or having to send for more wood for the stove.
