[Welp. Waking up in the morning, as per normal. But as soon as our historian opens her eyes... they'll widen to their absolute maximum.

This wasn't her house, and nothing about the room she's in looked anything like she had seen within the Human Village...

she'll adjust, with the ( Read more... )

[The piercing shriek is enough to wake Satori, and she assumes that there's probably a new arrival in the house. That's the only real reason for anyone to be screaming. It's not Koishi's voice, after all.

So she trudges up to her not!parents' bedroom and peers inside.

Yyyyep. Just as she suspected.

As much as she'd like to ignore the newcomer, it would probably be in bad taste to do so, and she wants to make her life in Mayfield as easy as possible, so...]

I take it you need an explanation.

[Going to take a moment before she looks over at the door, because she'll have to take a while to calm herself down before that.]

Y-Yes, please...

[Something about this person... She seems almost familiar. That eye on her chest especially... It reminds her of someone she knows of, but hasn't really met yet...]

[Satori begins to rattle the following facts off in a deadpan voice:]

You've been kidnapped. There's no way out, so don't bother looking for the exit. Your powers and possessions, if you had any, are gone, but you'll get them back eventually. Including your clothes, so don't be too alarmed. But you can get them back.

Usually, something horrible will happen in the town and then a few days after it's done everyone will receive an item of theirs in the mail. I'd give examples but frankly, you'll know when you see it.

...Alternatively, you can go to the post office and ask for your items back, but the toll is high. I lost an arm to the post office a while back in exchange for something, but...received my arm again in the mail several months later.

Oh, and when you die - I'd say 'if' but I'd be leading you on - don't worry too much, you'll be alive again the next day.

It's a terrible place, but you might as well get used to it.

[upon mention of clothes, she'll quickly look down, lifting up the blanket she had wrapped around herself upon realizing she's laying beside a man, to make sure that she's at least wearing something, whether or not it's her own clothes...]

I... I see... [this is just so much to take in...]

Yeah, pretty ridiculous, ain't it? It's like we're livin' in a sitcom here. Just wait till ya hear'a kinda shit'is town pulls on'a regular basis.

[Balin scoffs followed by a chuckle. Not in any demeaning way toward here; the subtext is more like "You won't believe what you're about to hear."]

Oh yeah, I can name some. You're gonna wanna siddown for'is.

The very next day after I woke up? Somebody among'a town's leadership was killed when one of'a "civil servants" went rogue. So'a town undertook "anti-Communist procedures" an' released some kinda truth serum gas into'a air, which made people impulsively tell everyone anythin'ey were tryin'a keep under wraps. An' I mean anything. Some people got it worse and started thinkin' they were communists, even when'ey clearly didn't know what'a hell Communism is.

[There's the sound of a book being opened, and pages being turned.Oh, and this is'a gem. I'd been investigatin' this one since I first showed up. A few months ago? Like, some time around May, from what I heard? The town put out this census askin' people some real bullshit questions. Stuff you'd never find on'a real census, like "what do you fear most," desire most, "who means'a ( ... )

[She'll sit down as instructed, getting the feeling that she'll probably really want to, considering the nature of the answers he'll probably have for her question.]

[when he's finally done, she'll take a moment to absorb all of that, before going on to ask --] The welcome letter... Not yet, but I'll probably ask the other members of my... [a brief pause. This is still so weird...] household... about it.

[Screaming? Utsuho is used to screaming!

...but she's intelligent enough to tell that they're not necessarily supposed to come from inside the house. Near to where she was sleeping, in fact. Relatively. There was a ceiling in the way.

The hell raven's first inclination was to just...flutter away and find a new perch to sleep on. But she's already awake, now, and Satori had left.

So the raven--properly raven-shaped--yawns, ruffles out all of her feathers, and flaps through the house, up the stairs and perches on the railing near where she heard the noise.]

[Soon after Satori had left the room, Keine would be inclined to leave the room as soon as she possibly could, and. Well. Does just that. In her pajamas, but that's okay, since she was just going to go wash her face, almost clinging onto that tiny hope that this is just some silly delusion.]

[Then as soon as she opens the door, she'll come face to face with the raven.]

['... what's a bird doing in the house?']

[What is this new strange person doing in the house?

Obviously she must be squawked at.]

Unyu.

[And Okuu tilts her head a bit, beady red eyes rather striking and obvious. She wasn't attempting to hide them, after all.]
