The Mom Cat Mafia

May 30, 2009 09:51

Well today I witnessed it with my own eyes...neighbors let their dog out in the back yard...a fenced back yard. The dog is a Pit Bull (I realize that pits have gotten a bad rap and are not generally scary unless someone makes them that way, but I offer the breed by way of explaining that we are not talking Chihuahua, here.) The Mom Cat Mafia, who ( Read more... )

That's such a pain. We don't have any neighbors that let the dogs run free on purpose, but there are two people whose dogs get out regularly. One is an old chow and the other is a Jack Russell terrier. Between the cats and my own dogs, it gets to be a real problem when you find someone else's dog standing in the middle of your yard. We have a fence too, but the Jack Russell digs under it, and if I block it off so he can't, he goes in the next door neighbor's fence and then digs in from the side yard. I won't call animal control because I don't want the dogs to suffer because their owners are idiots and they aren't mean dogs or anything, but sometimes I think about taking them to the no-kill shelter we have in town. Maybe they'd wind up with more responsible doggie "parents!"

'I won't call animal control because I don't want the dogs to suffer because their owners are idiots'..I agree with that, Yep Idiots.

One a Black Lab...Maggie, I call Bone Head! She's 9 and the pooping one.
But both dogs kill animals around here, which I don't like at all.
The better not get the Chipmunks!!...at least they can go underground.
The other one is less than desirable but she likes me now. After I had to hit her from attacking me..once with a coffee cup, another time with a swift kick to the neck. Maggie used to be Ashleys (my brothers now passed on Golden) best friend. She is a good dog.

The little guy has a "classic" tabby pattern. I have a female that has the same swirls but she's silver black. He's adorable!

I like Romeo. Haha. He looks so smug!

Score one for the cats! I love it! A beautiful bunch, too. I'm a little jealous that I only have three....

And I'm not sure that the rep pits and other bully breeds is all that unfair, either. I took one in from a shelter that seemed totally sweet and loving until it killed one of our other dogs while we were out of the house one afternoon. I've heard too many similar stories from other people with "wonderful" pits to think they're isolated occurrences. And if they didn't have that rep, I don't think they'd be as popular as fashion accessories for thugs like they are....

I have 5 kitties, but these are the neighborhood ferals. There are about 20 of them, but only about half that number are regular visitors in our yard. It drives my cats crazy because sometimes they'll come and sit at the window and stare at them. They don't meow...they just stare and watch my cats pace up and down the window ledge. You would love these ferals though. Such personalities they have. We have nicknames for almost all of them.

Sorry to hear about your dog. That had to be heartbreaking.
