Hi, guys! While I'm working on my multi-chapter fic, I simply had to post a tag for The Dwarf in the Dirt. Nothing earth-shattering, just a short fic about what might have been going through Booth's head during the end of the ep. I hope you enjoy - thank you for reading!

She was his truest, brightest mirror, the other half of his whole.

This line is perfection.

And he saw.
And in the seeing, marveled that he hadn’t seen it sooner.

I love this sentence; beautiful and honest.

In the beginning of their partnership, when he’d first touched or hugged her she’d flinched away from him as if the contact blistered her. Now he was the one shying away from the burn of her skin. If he felt it now he knew it would be more than he could handle.

This imagery is amazing. The word blistering is so powerful and the comparison to a burn works on so many different levels.

Being with Bones wasn’t always fun. It wasn’t even always comfortable. But it was always right.

This is my personal favorite line of the entire fic because it is so important. I love how this shows that Brennan is not perfect but she is perfect for him.

Wow, thank you so much, hon - you made my night with your lovely review.

I am usually very empathetic with Brennan, but Booth was so compelling in this episode that I simply had to figure out his thoughts throughout. And you've picked up on what I feel is a key element of their relationship - they annoy each other, they bicker, and it's all forgotten in the next five seconds. They were meant to be together. We all know it, and not they're beginning to realize it, too.

Thanks again, and have a great night!

Wouaw, beautiful.

My favorites sentence : "From the minute he met her he knew he’d die for her. Why hadn’t he also realized that he’d die without her?"

and of course, the end :

"He could wait. Somehow he’d manage. Being with Bones wasn’t always fun. It wasn’t even always comfortable. But it was always right. Nothing else had ever felt so right. If his reward for waiting was her, then he could wait. He would find a way to wait as long as it took."

Thanks for that. It's just what I think Booth could think/feel.

I really think that Brennan is still hiding from the reality of what she feels for him. Not that she doesn't know, but that she is not acknowledging it. Booth is actually quite good at compartmentalization, but nowhere near as good as Brennan. She is hiding it all away, and it is going to be a wonderful journey to watch, when she starts to accept it.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

This was a brilliant insight to Booth's character! I love how you included the comparison to 5x01 with being a straight shot when her life was on the line. When I watched last week's ep, I personally felt that Booth was remembering or picturing that situation when he stepped up for his firing test.

From the minute he met her he knew he’d die for her. Why hadn’t he also realized that he’d die without her?

LOVED that line. Your characterization is so spot on!
