You do a nice job of providing Percy with character and color. I can see him (and other drones) simply continuing their work at the Ministry without thoughts to the consequences. The scene with Penny work beautifully as a kick in the butt for him. I like that you use Aberforth as a point of contact for Percy and that the reason Percy doesn't contact his family is rooted, in part, with logic. Thanks for an interesting read on a character that is difficult to get a handle on at times.

Man, Percy was so hard to work with. I'm glad what I produced turned out interesting. =) Penny's scene was fun to write. And Aberforth, as I said to swissmarg, was all JKR's idea.

Awesome piece! Thank you so much, I love gen. I think it's actually harder to write a good gen story than a shippy one-shot. I think this is brilliant, and I can't tell at all that you had any difficulty with it. I think it's great how you showed Percy's perceptions changing, even with him fighting to keep them the whole way. I especially like that whole sequence with Yaxley and travers, where he at first thinks they are in custody, then when he finds out they have been appointed to top positions, manages to convince himself that there must be a 'good reason' for it, as if they were secretly on the good side. I could really feel his struggle to keep his world intact, flying in the face of logic and reason while doing so. I also think it was inspired to have him go to Aberforth. I would never have thought of that, but it seems obvious now. Thank you again for a great story!

I'm very glad you like it. =D I was so anxious about whether you'd like it or not - it's my first fest and I've never really written for someone before. As for Percy flying in the face of logic - I feel like he'd have to have his trust wear away slowly. And Aberforth was entirely JKR's idea - when Percy comes back he says that he managed to get in contact with Aberforth.
