[OTA] The Lord of Misrule, the Abbot of Unreason....or the Prince of Mayhem?

She'd been up late, the night before, wrapping all the presents she hadn't gotten started on before, and now there was a small pile in their rooms - for Victor and Chives - and Zoe had a shopping tote full of presents for everyone else in one hand. A few had been handed out already, but for the last few minutes Zoe had been paused in front of the ( Read more... )

What's this, what's that? What a completely strange reaction to this beautiful list that someone has come to embellish. With glitter. And diamonds. And other sparkly things.

"Disappointed you've not made the cut, changeling?"

"Horribly." An impressively prompt answer, but then she's had a little bit of time to twist this into something that makes sense. Or at least remind herself that Victor's reaction to this would be '...no,' and thus it is not a world she's going to have to learn to go with.

"I suppose most people don't think I could be creativve enough for it. Should I stand on my head more? Shoot flaming arrows?" Have a cookie, Cynric.

Cookies, you say? Fantastic and magical. And to think the good people didn't want her in charge.

"I'd recommend it." He needs a moment to munch contentedly before continuing. "Also hopping out of trees. People tend to not get used to it, amazingly enough."

After literally years of being surprised by it.

The successful sugar ones, decorated like stars and Christmas trees and angels and non-denominational snowflakes.

"I did that to Victor once." Amazingly, he had not drawn a knife - that had been a few weeks later during another less than wise moment in impulsive teenagerdom. "Speaking of," she adds, nodding at the list, "are you worried about the competition?"

Cynric is, after all, the entirely unsurprising name on that list.

Ah, just the gorgeous brunette Eden's been looking for. There's a present with your name on it, after all, Zoe.

"Been looking for you all over, darling. Happy Christmas." The sentence is accompanied by a hug, which gives her her first look at that notice board and the paper on it. When she pulls back, the joy in her eyes has been tempered by a good bit of dismay.

"Not that I don't want to see you there, but please tell me you two aren't going. If he's chosen he'll outlaw fun for the entire night."

As it happens, there's a present with your name on it too, Eden, tucked neatly into Zoe's bag. But she's almost completely forgotten about it, what with this.

"Happy Christmas," she echoed, before looking back at the notice board. "I haven't mentioned it to him, and he doesn't like parties." The understatement of the century right there, though to be fair - there've been so many parties this year that Zoe's a bit weary of them herself, and that's not counting the clutch of smaller ones she's got invitations to for the holidays.

"But still. If he did get elected...well, I have a feeling it'd be like you said, or the terrifying opposite." She didn't know all the ins and outs of Victor's reputation - people were careful not to talk about it around her, first because she'd been too young for it and then because she was dating him - but she knew it was dark, and for good reason.

"The opposite would be equally terrifying. I think I might die of shock if I ever saw our Mr. Fox giggle." The thought does carry a certain sort of hilarious uncomfortability with it. As to the not liking parties, that's another thing she'll never understand. Never too many parties, never too many people. Still, she supposes, it's not for everyone.

"I know I'm going, I'm just still not sure if it's with anyone or just to attend. It's been a busy few months, hasn't it? Things happening all over the place. I've managed to get measurements from your bridesmaids, by the by; we'll have to talk sometime after the holidays so you can work out the final designs. How are arrangements going with Chives?"

"...He doesn't." Giggle, that is. Though he had, on very rare occasion, chuckled. And he did smile, on slightly less rare occasion.

"You wouldn't have any trouble finding a date if you wanted one." Eden never did; Zoe had been in awe until she'd stumbled headfirst into her first real relationship herself. "They're...going fine," she said. "We've picked a room for the reception. It's small, but...I wanted a sort of cozy pub feel, and I think Chives wouldn't have ever forgiven me for holding it in a pub." She nibbled on her lip, then. "We haven't scheduled the church yet, though. Victor and I...have to discuss that."
