The Examination: Cryptictac

Jul 06, 2008 11:22

Humor, angst, het, slash, drabbles, epics or vids, cryptictac does it all, and makes it all seem easy. Or maybe not easy, especially in the case of some of her fics which may tear out your heart, but at least with Ticcy it all seems real.

Well, at least when Ticcy intends for it all to be real. After all, The Mysterious Tube of Lube was all about taking a ( Read more... )

What do you think is your most important contribution to fandom?
I like to think that realism is my most, well, significant contribution more than important. Or maybe it is important - who knows. I just like to present things in an ugly, unforgiving - and sometimes humourous - way because that's what life is - ugly and unforgiving, mixed in with a little happiness and joy. And sometimes humourous, too, because the other facts of life need to be laughed at as much as they need to be taken seriously.

How does vidding fit into your creative life?Funnily enough, I thought I would have been asked about my vidding in some way in this "interview", being it's a fairly significant thing I do in fandom. Oh, well - at least someone's taken the time to remember the other stuff I do. :-) Vidding is basically a visual form of fic writing to me. Once upon a time, I scoffed at vidding and how pointless it was, until I came across some vids that caught my attention and actually told a story. Then I became intrigued in that scope of storytelling and ( ... )

It's a bit of both. We discuss main plot ideas we want to cover, usually over email or IM, but the finer details and how the story itself unfolds is always grown organically. We've been roleplaying together for about three years, almost - we know each other's writing and characterisation styles so well nowadays that letting a storyline grow and flourish as the crow flies feels very easy and natural.

I've been in a lot of rpgs and played with a lot of people; it's very difficult to find a person you really "click" with when it comes to rp. I've been really lucky with Eos. We sort of accidentally found each other, her applying to a game I used to run, and we instantly clicked when we started playing together, and that's never changed. It's really nice to reach a point of comfort when collaborating with someone where there's complete trust as well as equal passion for the story we're working on together.

Hi Ticcy! <3 <3
You mentioned fics you'd like to expand on - any specific examples of those that you'd like to share? I'm curious. <3

♥♥♥

Way back when I started in the fandom, I wrote my first ever fanfic called Under His Skin. That fic itself makes me cringe now because of how awfully written it is - I like to think I have improved a lot since then. But despite how much I prefer to pretend that fic doesn't exist, I do like the idea and have thought about expanding on how House and Wilson got to that point, and what happens to them afterwards.

I also want to expand into Turn Off The Night a lot more. That whole 'verse just intrigues me to no end. I am fascinated with how the infarction actually affected House - not just physically, but emotionally and psychologically. It's kind of one of those 'verses that is infinite - there are so many places the infarction era could be taken, so many dark places the insight into both House and Wilson's psyche could go.

I also wouldn't mind expanding on Running Up That Hill - where the events in that fic leads House and Wilson, where they end up, the consequences of their actions and words, etc.

I want to know ALL ABOUT rpg'ing. I know you love it, but I want to know why you love it, and I want to know what you gain from it as a writer, and all the value and fun you find in doing it, and some of your favorite RPG experiences ever. I love reading your RPGs, and I know they're your babies, but they've always mystified me a bit as a fangirl, so I want the inside scoop. How does RPG'ing one character compare to another? How do they compare from 'ship to 'ship and how does that help you (or maybe it doesn't) as a writer/vidder/thinker/fan in general? What are your favorite RPGs, and are there any you really wish you could get started but haven't been able to?

Oh god, lol. Where do I start with your awesome questions? Seriously, I love love LOVE talking about my roleplaying, ahaha. ♥

I know you love it, but I want to know why you love it
I love the immediacy of RP. I love the excitement of never knowing where a story will go because half of it is out of my control. I love the experience of collaborating with someone who's just as passionate as me about the characters we're playing. I love, most of all, the fact that I can create an entire universe, wherein my character has ups and downs, and triumphs and failures, and happiness and sadness, and love and hope and pain. This might sound a bit weird, but roleplaying a character really makes that character become a part of you. What I mean by that is: you get so deep inside their emotions and thoughts and this life that you've created for them. I love that experience and I love how intimate roleplay is. That's what I gain from it as a writer, as well as the value and fun I find in doing it. And the bonus is Eos (ducks_in_a_row) is such a wonderful, ( ... )

Rolepaying a ship really helps me to appreciate that ship a lot more, because of the ways I get to explore their dynamic. But again, each time I roleplay a ship in different games, the direction and dynamic is always different. For example, when Eos and I started roleplaying House/Cuddy, it was in a completely different setting, with a completely different premise, and the issues that arose between them both were completely different to the issues that have arisen in our current game, cuddys_house. That's another reason why I love roleplay - THERE ARE INFINITE POSSIBILITIES. I love exploring cause and effect. Roleplaying definitely helps with vidding and fic writing - it helps me grasp a deeper understanding of the 'ship's dynamic and the way the characters see each other. Most of my recent vids have been influenced and/or inspired by my current House/Cuddy game.

What plot bunny floating around in your head do you most want to write?

I know you're RP-ed a hell of a lot, and I know you have a certain fondness for RP-ing House. What's different about RP-ing for you that draws you to it more (these days, at least) than writing "traditional" fics? The immediacy? The unpredictability of it? Your partner in crime?

Everyone seems to have different reasons why they love House. Why do you gravitate toward playing House more than any other character, and what about his personality to you like to play around with the most?

Are there any stories you are too busy/lazy (hey, you said it) to write, but would like to see written? Any pairing you would like to see more?

God damn, ask a difficult question, why don't you? ;-) Hmmm. Well, I've been doing a lot of thinking over a particular plot bunny of late, one I've shared with you over IM - I'm going to remain coy about revealing any, though. I kind of don't like to be too out in the open with my ideas in case someone likes them enough to run with the plot bunny themselves. Not that plot bunnies "belong" to anyone, but I spend so much time thinking over my plot bunnies that I become really attached and possessive about them. XD

I'm going to be super, super lazy and direct you to my answer to Licia's questions - I rambled longer than I needed to about this exact very question you've asked here. ♥

Oh well where do I begin? ... Your music videos are pretty much WOW! I can't find an other word to describe them. I love how you experiment (and dare play) with effects. It's nice that there is a red line (story) through the vids, and that it's not just a follow up of random clips of a certain pairing, episode or story arc. It makes them so original and unique.

So finally here's my question... Who do you look up to when it comes to vid-making and fanfic writing? And euhm maybe for a more personal one, what music (or bands) do you love? (I just wondered about that coz I mostly like the music you use in the vids).

Thanks & have a great week!

Ooh, good question. In terms of vidding, I really look up to di_br and stephantom. They're both fantastic storytellers through vidding, and I always appreciate their work. hallospacegirl (don't know who she is on lj, if she even has an lj) is another person I really look up to. gleam is the person who is really encouraging to me in vidding - she vids, too, and we always have discussions about vidding. She was the one who really got me into it in the first place.

In terms of writing, I look up to a number of people. ducks_in_a_row is a brilliant fic writer, someone who's much less appreciated than she deserves. daasgrrl has always been someone I've really admired as a fic writer (pity she doesn't write much anymore!), as well as shutterbug_12, who writes THE best House/Stacy in the whole fandom. I really appreciate what topaz_eyes and deelaundry have done for the fandom with their fic writing, too. And queenzulu is a fantastic encouragement, as well as the Queen of Smut. Anyone who can get me to like House/Foreman has serious talent.
