It should be noted that, although Disraeli was born into a Jewish family and was proud of his Jewish heritage, he converted to the Church of England as an adolescent. That's what made his early parliamentary career possible. The parliamentary oath (which was framed in specifically Christian terms) made it impossible for Jews to become members of parliament; the oath was only changed in 1858, at which point Disraeli had been in parliament for 20 years.
