Probably A Pretty Scary Story

Tara the Terrible. I will never forget this kid. They brought her into the Loma Linda University Hospital's Pediatric Hem-Onc ward screaming. Don't bring her in here don't bring her in here don't bring her in here... my spell totally failed because there was an empty bed, because Cam was mellow and had fortunately few issues, and because, ( Read more... )

She was taller than me at only 13! :D I fully expect she'll be ruling the world any time now.

I'm so happy the story had a happy ending. I really wasn't expecting that and it was a nice surprise. I can't believe this poor kid's parents... it really is an important lesson, that honesty is so important when raising kids, especially in a crisis like that. My parents were always very honest with me and never really sugarcoated anything. I can't imagine how it's like for parents with a sick kid, but I'd like to think most parents would understand quicker that it's more detrimental to lie about a bad situation than to tell the kid the truth.

It's so basic, but it can sometimes be really hard.

Very scary. I agree that parents should be honest with their kids... I'd want to know what's going on with me.

When I was 13, my mom went into a coma. I only found out after I overheard my sister crying on the phone. I thought she had died and ran away. If only someone had explained it to me... I have a hard time believing people are telling me bad news to this day because of it.
