Just so you know, I've been reading all of these like a fiend and am finding them fascinating. In fact, I went and re-read the entire series sans-commentary over again, so I wouldn't get too distracted by the insertions, and could enjoy them fully for what they are. I find this glimpse into the writing process and how you developed the plot incredibly interesting; partly because you're funny, and partly because I tried writing fic when I was younger, and I knew it was crap, and now I doubly know it was crap because my mind just doesn't work this way. Too damn linear for my own good.

Thanks! Writing is partly inborn talent, but a lot of it is just practice. Still, I suppose it's like any other art form--there are a lot of things you can learn, but if you don't have that mysterious something that drives you and makes it fall into place inside your head, you'll never be a true writer. I could take class after class and never be a painter. All of which to say that no, linear thinking doesn't make for good storytelling. A disorganized brain like mine is fertile ground for fic.
