Key words being "going to". He'd headed out on his own, like an idiot, and it wasn't long before something dropped out of a frigging tree onto his back and started, well, trying to turn him into a snack.
And the next thing he knew it was dark and he was pretty sure he was in a box.
"Shit..."
Finn was pretty sure he was going to die and should probably just accept the fact for all of two seconds. Then he started screaming. "HELP. SOMEBODY HEEEELP."

Also he needed cover.
He moved fast-
(Had he always been so fast? He felt faster than he normally was.)
-kicking over the shouting coffin with a yell, and brandishing his knife.
"NOBODY MOVE!"
He paused, gaping.
"Hudson-senpai, what are you doing in a box?!" He blurted, clearly before he'd had a chance to think about it.
Never mind. He had flash bombs, right? And smoke grenades! He'd brought them with him from the start, when he'd come into the forest, and into this whole weird world! They would definitely work in a place like this!
He'd get them both out of this!
...Dammit, where were they?! He hadn't used them for weeks, and so the order of his bag was unusual hectic!
"Hurry, senpai!" He shouted, finally finding a pellet, and hurling it with all his strength, at the nearest bemused cluster.
(Uwah Had he always been able to throw like that?)
There was a dull WHUMPH, and a cloud of smoke filled the cavern ( ... )

Er, Quinn. Quinn too, obviously
Not that he wanted any of them to die but...God, this was not the point.
"Gau, where the hell are we?!" Finn threw his arms up and, surprised at his strength, managed to knock the top of the weird box up and-- probably inhaled a bunch of smoke.
What the hell?
"G-- Gau?"

The speed astonished him. He was definitely faster. Why was he faster?!
He breathed in out of habit, and realized he hadn't been breathing before that. (What? Well...he was nervous, obviously! They were fighting for their lives!)
"Quick! We're probably underground! Like in caves in the mountains!" Gau answered, careening around a corner, and throwing the pellet.
He was shocked by the screams behind them, and by the flare of heat on his skin. They were around a corner, Why would...?
Finn's wrist felt really cold, he realized dimly, though mistakenly he followed up that thought with I'll make some hot lemonade for us when we get back to the caravan. That should help. Hudson-senpai shouldn't be put at risk of a cold.
He made the mistake of looking back, and caught sight of Finn's face for the first time.
He gave a yell and jumped back, brandishing the knife.
"Oh my God your face! Your face, Hudson-san ( ... )

And it's not like he was totally dumb. He knew what this added up to.
He just didn't want to believe it.
Finn grabbed Gau's arm. "Come on, let's get out of here."
Reply
"If I go with you-!"
He was following, though--without much choice, and...
Finn could really run.
His feet were louder than Raikou's but he might even have been as fast as the samurai-
That can't be...

Finn tugged at Gau's arm, determined to get the hell out of there now. He was not going to be able to make sense of all this until he was out of the freaking caves. That just made all of this way too creepy.

He did come to save me. So if something happens, that makes it my responsibility.

He's running super fast and he's not even breathing. At all.
This is messed up.
As soon as they're out of the caves and there's no claustrophobia to worry about, Finn drops Gau's arm and paces back and forth, hand running through his hair. "What the hell happened to us, man?"

"I..." he hesitated, realizing for once he had no idea what was happening. He couldn't declare something authoritatively, couldn't come up with something using the references in his notebook.
"I don't know." he whispered, hugging himself and shivering.
His insides gave a hard twist. It left him feeling strangely lost and pathetic. Insignificant.
Dead weight.
(...He had time to think of puns? At a time like this?)
He noticed again in the cold of the mountainside that he wasn't breathing. No ghosting crystal breath. Nothing when he sighed out- when he made himself sigh out.
He was the same temeprature as the ice.
"I think I'm dead." He whispered faintly, disoriented by the thought, and its finality. He thought he could feel a little tiny bit of warmth floating around inside him--a spark that wasn't him.
Yoite's lifeforce. The bit he gave me back when...
...I really am dead.

Time to pace a bunch and just generally freak the frig out. Oh God oh God.
"I don't want to sleep in a coffin," Finn whined, tugging at his hair and gritting his teeth. Maybe if he complained enough, this would go away. "How am I supposed to play football if I can't go to practices?!"

"No...it's...it's worse than that." He said slowly, numbly. "If we're like this...how are we supposed to get home? E-Even if the caravan could accomodate us, we'd be putting everyone else on-board at risk, and-" He cut himself off.
Yoite. What about my promise to Yoite? Or Raikou telling me in the future we would rebuild the Shimizu clan together, with Raimei-san?
Is that really all...lost?Gau was a person who could pull himself up, and could work with all his strength for whatever purpose he was brought to, but he was having difficulty seeing a way around this ( ... )

No. He just, he wouldn't. He'd either fix this or he'd never go back.
His stomach churned uncomfortably and he looked away, shaking his head. "I never watched Buffy, man. Or Twilight. I don't know how to fix this."
Reply
"Raikou-san watched Vampire Hunter D with me one night. I know...a little. There might be a chance if we killed the ones who made us like this."
Not that he remembered more than that killing aura.
Gau shivered.
He would love to stick his kunai through anyone who'd looked like all that were so much sport.
He didn't say that there was a large chance it was uncurable. He didn't see it as dishonest. He saw it as protecting Finn. He'd only be more upset if he knew.

He's fairly certain if he tried to eat anyone right now, he wouldn't know how to stop eating. His stomach feels like it's completely empty and his teeth are on edge at the very thought of food.
He knows he's not capable of hurting anyone on purpose, not really, but accidents...God, he didn't know.
