Application for Susan Foreman (Oldschool Doctor Who)

Nov 05, 2010 00:38

There was a flash of light and a teenage girl with short dark hair suddenly appeared in the Sorting Room. “Oh!” she said, startled. “How strange! Where am I, exactly?” She saw the application and Dictaquill lying on the desk, and read it over. “This is all very strange,” she said, and was surprised to see that the quill was copying down her ( Read more... )

Turlough just stared in baffled surprise. "You had been a lot older when we met." He shrugged. "That's time travel, I suppose."

"Oh, so I get to know you later? I'll have to remember that. It can get complicated sometimes." She smiled and held out a hand. "I'm Susan, but you probably know that already. What's your name?"

"Turlough," he said, shaking Susan's hand. "I travel with your grandfather much later." He hummed in amusement. "Grandfather. The two regenerations here hardly look it."

"Oh, so Grandfather is here? That's a relief. And I'm glad he's made some more friends, too."

He'd been taking tea in the hallways, strolling along to look at the portraits and get lost in the implausible staircases. It was perfect timing that he took a sip just as he passed the sorting room doorway.

He gagged. He spit. He tossed the teacup and saucer away.

"Susan?!"

"Grandfather!" Susan exclaimed happily. "Let's see, which regeneration are you on? You look quite a bit different. Are Mr. Chesterton and Miss Wright here as well?"

((Is enthusiastic hugging okay with you?))

The Doctor Gave he a tight squeeze, spinning around as he did. "Mercy, when did you get so tall!" (obligatory Grandfatherly question, of course, but he loved being able to ask it.) "Or rather, when did I get short? Did I? Did you? It doesn't matter really, but look at you, here!" He was ear-to-ear grinning. At this rate, the whole 'family' might show up. He couldn't have been happier. As long as, of course, it didn't mean some horrible travesty was about to threaten all of space time, But even then he couldn't help being a bit enthusiastic.

"No, neither of them have made it, but current trends willing they just might. This would be Eleven, and if I do say so myself it just gets better as the numbers get higher. Especially when we get to hear people asking why you're calling me 'grandfather' all the time, that'll be a right laugh."

Susan hugged him back enthusiastically. "I'm glad you're here, too. It must have been quite some time, if you're up to eleven already. What all has happened - or are you not allowed to tell me?"

All things considered, the Doctor was in a pretty fantastic mood. The school was full of fascinating people, there were two of him and even Rose had returned. He was strolling down the corridor, whistling to himself when he stopped dead inside the sorting room. He stared. The Doctor crossed the room in two long strides and swept her up into an embrace, swinging her around.

"Susan! Lovely, wonderful Susan, look at you!"

"Grandfather! You know, this is going to get confusing fairly quickly."

It was his lovely Susan, well before the Time War and.. things that he was Not Going to Remember.

"So I see you've already met the one with the bowtie, eh? Better ears, stranger fashion sense?"

Susan giggled. "I suppose you could say that. Is he from before or after you?"

"The problem with that story was that Guinevere could never make up her mind. Pretty girl but flighty as hell when you get right down to it. I won't even get into how Gawain fancied Hector.. it just complicates things," he said airily.

The slinder man leaned against the desk with her application, holding a beer bottle loosely between two fingers. "Welcome to Hogwarts. It's only going to get weirder from here."

"Hopefully Harry doesn't have that problem too. It'd make things much harder on Fred and George."

"Hogwarts seems fascinating so far! My name's Susan, what's yours?"

She was taking it all remarkably in stride, which was an encouraging sign. "It's quite the experience," he agreed. "But it sounds like you'll manage pretty well."

"Name's Methos. So what kind of world did you come from?"

((That's alright.))

"Oh, well, Grandfather and I have been all over. We're great travelers. But my home planet's called Gallifrey."

"This is Earth," the little prince confirmed. He tilted his head a bit, studying Susan with curiosity. "Are you visiting? Have you been to Earth before?"

Susan smiled at the cute little boy. "No, I'm from a planet called Gallifrey. I've spent quite a bit of time on Earth, though. What about you?"

"I've been to Earth once before. Are you an explorer?" he wondered. "What is Gallifrey like? Is it very big, like Earth?"

"You could call me that, I suppose; Grandfather and I do do rather a lot of exploring. Gallifrey, my home planet, is actually quite a bit larger than Earth. It has an orange sky and forests with silver leaves. It's really quite lovely. What about you? What planet are you from?"
