A strangely-dressed albino pushed his long, milk-white hair back from his face, staring about the room with wide, cat-like eyes of deep crimson. His eldritch features marked him as one of the line of ancient Melnibone, which he was soon to learn would mean very little here. The muscles in his lithe body tensed in expectation as he surveyed the room

Sadako took on a relatively unthreatening aspect as she allowed herself to become visible; dripping seawater but not openly decayed. She peeked at Elric from behind her tangled curtain of hair and gave a girlish giggle.
"Oh, that outfit doesn't work at all! You need a pretty pink dress with white ribbons."
Sadako might have discovered the works of Mark Ryden.

Mr. Wednesday cracked a sour smile. "Howl for Arioch as much as you like. This isn't quite a godsforsaken place entirely, but I suspect the closest thing to a Lord of Chaos you'll get around here is the Sorting Hat."

"I am Elric of Melnibone." He bowed politely towards Wednesday. "I am pleased to make your acquaintance, Mister Wednesday. It appears that you are somewhat more familiar with certain concepts that are familiar to me than others here. Perhaps you might have some theories on the nature of this place? Do you know if it is under the rule of Law or Chaos? Some indications seem to suggest Chaos, but, others suggest that it is neither one."

While not actively searching for miserable people to snicker over, it was just Kurama's luck that he happened to find one. It was his cat's fault, really. Belophoebe had decided that she was to explore, and that her pet human-demon-creature was to follow along and open doors for her. One of those doors being, of course, the one for the Sorting Room.
He looked down at Elrich for a moment as the man huddled in his private pile of gaudy angst before scanning the application. Kurama was a demon who took great pride in his willpower, but it was taking every ounce of it not to howl with laughter over what the quill had transcribed. He had never, in all his long life, actually met a grown man with a maudlin streak quite as powerful as this.
Belophoebe had distracted herself by sniffing curiously at Elrich, not coming close enough to touch (or something so plebeian as petting, unless she felt like it) and after a moment gave ( ... )

Elric looked over Kurama and noticed Belophoebe, and actually managed a slight smile at the feline. He attempted to greet her in the language of cats, which he knew, as Melniboneans had links with many natural spirits. The link with cats was one of the strongest, even reflected in the Melnibonean lineage's cat-like eyes. Of course, due to the translation charm, the bizarre sound he tried to utter came out as "Hello" to anyone else's ears. Only after greeting the cat did he turn to answer Kurama, who admittedly looked pretty normal to him. He'd seen a lot odder things than fox parts. There was something interesting about him- he almost appeared to have a touch of Melnibonean blood himself ( ... )

"As you are a teacher here, do you perhaps know the purpose of this place besides teaching? Are the students being trained for a purpose?" A constant note of sadness seemed to hang in Elric's voice, even when he wasn't dwelling on doom and gloom, but he looked down at Belophebe and gave the cat a slight smile. It was somehow comforting to know that cats dwelled here- perhaps it meant he would be able to call on a cousin of Meerclar, who represented the spirit of all cats upon his plane.

This application proved most interesting. She looked at Elric with a bartender's sympathy.
"Dearie, what you need is a good stiff drink."
