Open RP: Potions office hours!

Apr 20, 2008 21:11

Valentine had hoped to be holding a class before now, but there had been a few hang-ups in tracking down and negotiating the purchase of a particular vine that he plans to need beforehand. He's been assured that his supply is on the way, though ( Read more... )

Knock knock.

Who's there?

L. Looking interested, respectful, and placid all at once.

"Come in!" Valentine says in a sing-song voice. He's seated behind his desk, daintily nibbling on biscotti and staring straight ahead. (He is predictably seeing things that are not there. It's nice to never be bored.)

"Thank you." L enters, and glances about for a chair.

"These are open office hours? Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?"

Valentine waves a hand at the chairs stacked to the side of his desk. There are a few different kinds, scavenged from all over the school, just in case there was ever a group meeting in his office. "Of course, dear boy. Consider me at your service. But first, may I have your name? You know mine," he says, nudging his polished brass nameplate to a more prominent position on his desk."

He smelled baked goods!

And...the Potions teacher? Interesting. Probably more of a challenge to the mind than astronomy. And more precision.

The Chairman poked his head in the door.

Valentine waves the man in. "Good day, sir. What a remarkable and fantastic attire you're wearing. Who is your tailor, and does it come in black?" Valentine is a big believer in the black and white look.

"That's my secret." He is not telling who works on his clothes. He's willing to share recipes, but the clothes are off limits.

"Shame," he says, not really caring one way or the other. He's subvocalized a trigger that releases a cache of manufactured drug that allows his recall to be perfect for the next few seconds. If he decides later that he truly likes the outfit enough, he can describe it well enough to have it recreated elsewhere.

Potions office hours? This could be useful; potions was next on Near's list of subjects to investigate.

"Hello?"

"Come in, sit down, and have a snack if you wish," he says. "How might I help you?"

Near's recent run-in with ensorcelled chocolates was enough to put him off random snacks for a while.

"It's about your class, Professor. Are you holding one soon? Are there any books on the subject you would recommend to me in the interim? I'm taking an interest in potions and I'd like to be well informed."

Probably a fortuitous coincidence. "I am planning to hold one soon, yes. You are of course free to peruse the library's selection of books on potions and their applications, but the initial class will not be based on those. However, should you continue with the class, those sources will prove valuable. I can provide you with a list, if you'd like."

Morfin had been wanting to talk with the Potions Master! He needed his psychotropic medications replenished. Plus, he wanted to talk about possible avenues of therapy for the many needy students of Hogwarts.

He knocked cheerily on the professor's door. "Howdy!"

"Hello," he says cheerily. "How can I help you, good sir?"

"I'm Morfin, and I'm a Hufflepuff!" (First things first, after all.) "Do you have any Depo-Provera, or a potion equivalent? Chemical castration is part of what keeps me friendly!"

"How nice for you," he says, smiling blandly. "I am Professor Wolfe." The "lord" title, while nice, takes a background while he's in official teacher mode. "I'm certain that there's some sort of equivalent floating around somewhere. How else would we be avoiding a swarm of magical little babies, given the proclivities of some of the student body? Now, who did you previously get your prescription from?"
