First post, n00b, hiya and all that.

I've got two questions:

1. Does anyone know Irwin's first name? Is it "Tom," or is that just fanon?

2. How about the piece that Lockwood quotes at one point, saying "England, you been here too long, and songs you sung..." etc? I'm dying to find out what that's from.

Cheers.

MCMXIV is the other one the boys quoted about the war.

Never such innocence,
Never before or since,
As changed itself to past
Without a word--the men
Leaving the gardens tidy,
The thousands of marriages
Lasting a little while longer:
Never such innocence again.

I hate to sound weird, but how do you know this? Did you make it up? I feel somewhat like an idiot for asking, but for the sake of my fangirlish knowledge, I must.

They're kidding. The original text of my post said "first time" instead of "first name" because I'm a moron prone to both typos and, it seems, Freudian slips.

Of that fame, but that's not what the quote is from, and that's where I'm stumbling.

Alan Bennett mentions "Voices against England in the Night" in the Acknowledgements page of the play. And in IMDB, that title is also in THB's Company Credits page. So maybe that's the one?

As far as I can remember, "Tom" is film canon, not play canon, although I'm not 100% certain... Only 95%!

And I think they've found the Stevie Smith poem...

They have. This post is a week and a half old.

But, interesting. I don't remember any mention of "Tom" in the film.
