The IPAI've decided to go through with typing up my notes from HEL. Since in HEL we only learned those sounds relevant to standard English, that's all I'm going to put in these posts. The IPA is not only REALLY confusing in parts, but it's hard to understand a lot of the sounds considering they don't exist in English, ergo we don't know how to make

I had to learn this stuff for a Linguistics class, and I'm never taking something like that again. Fuck memorizing that first chart.

I can't do all of it. Not yet. Like I said, we only learned the sounds relevant to English, so come fall when I have my Linguistics class, I have a lot more to learn!

That's because it is! When we first started the IPA back in January, I was phonetically transcribing things people were saying in my head. There was a girl I tutored in my grammar class who's a speech pathology major, and she takes notes in the IPA.
