I had a somewhat similar upbringing. We didn't go to church much, but my mom is pretty religious, too. I didn't actually start noticing how entrenched most people are in gender stereotypes until I was in high school or so?

It's actually pretty astounding how many people just allow themselves to be chained into specific behaviours because of stereotypes.
