I am writing a crossover fill, crossing over Hetalia with the Sandman series as was requested having a nation interact with each of the Endless (Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, Delerium (formerly Delight))

More or less I am basing each interaction on some sort of event or at least a year. The one I am having the most difficulty with is Despair, because trying to balance finding an event that or time could conceivably trigger him meeting Despair, and is not potentially really super sensitive is proving difficult. And I'm already leery of a few portions of the fic being sensitive so any suggestions from any historical!anons would be great because I've hit a minor block.

I would advise NOT choosing the communist advent.

Also, maybe this would be good:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_of_Troubles

It's original, never touched on by the fandom, and truly, the name says it all xD

Funnier recount:

This anon once requeted something about the time of troubles but it was never filled, so I would be ecstatic if you wrote about this!

And... *cough*Is there already a link to this story in existence? Also, is it understandable for someone who could only afford to buy the first Sandman comic? >.<
I'd really love to read it! :D

Do you mean the Sandman comics or the fic? Because in the case of the comic I don't believe so as far as I know though I did save up for them all (it's worth it) And the fic is still in progress and I'm still poking away at the fic including a couple different meeting times for different Endless since I am still leery of some portions though I enjoyed doing the writing and research. And I need to poke through that wiki article a bit more reading up on the links and research a bit more but that could work very well. Thank you (and that link to the more humourous summary was brilliant. Oh Poland, Oh Russia 'Do we like him? Is he nice?' Thank you very much)

What is Romaheta? anonymous February 21 2011, 18:11:39 UTC
I saw this a few times in the latest lift and was wondering what it is.

(And hooray for a discussion post that actually lets us discuss things!)

AFAIK, RomaHeta was a fan made RPG.

Not really. It's impolite, not wank. Wank requires a lot more than people being nasty or bad-mouthing other people. There's no wank without rape wishes, personal insults, race/genre/class/size/age fail and at least one flounce.

How long is it Too Soon? anonymous February 21 2011, 20:33:41 UTC
A constant problem with writing Hetalia fanfic, isn't it? When is it too soon? What's too serious to write about ever?

I think it's a big, huge, YMMV topic. The more detached from a particular event you are, the less time it's going to take for you/the less seriousness it will hold for you.

YMMV. It depends on the event, imho.

Like the anons before me have said, it does depend on the event.

As a general rule, though, perhaps it would be best to stay away from newer events for about one or two years. It would be offensive to write about certain things so close to the event's occurrence. As an example, if the year was 2002 or 2003, it would be insensitive to some to write about 9/11. Currently, it would be offensive/insensitive to write about what is occurring in Egypt.

I don't think there are many subjects that are too serious, but you have to handle them correctly. It is still an issue to come across badly written, badly dealt with Holocaust fics, but the subject is allowed to be written about in fandom.
