Title: Take a Chance
Author: GW Katrina aka icedark_elf
Beta: forgottenlover
Fandom: FAKE
Pairing: Berkely Rose/Diana Spacey
Rating: PG-13
Wordcount: 1,117
Warnings: Um...spoilers for the last book and the state of Ryo and Dee's relationship.
Prompt: FAKE - Berkely Rose/Diana Spacey - I'd like to see Berkely be the one to get hit on for once, perhaps as some payback for Ryo's sake, or perhaps simply because Diana's just about had it with Berkely always asking her for favors without getting anything much in return. Rating-wise, I have no real preference, although if I had to choose, I'd pick a story about the chase rather than about the catch.

A/N: I hope this is what you were hoping for, or at least is something you like a lot.

Take a Chance

She walked in on the same scene, played out all over again. It was tiring to watch at times, but she couldn’t help but study it yet again.

Berkely had gotten Ryo alone, and was standing far too close to the man, casually invading his personal space. Given the lack of angry protesting, he must have sent Dee somewhere, or simply taken advantage of the man having to be elsewhere. Either way, Ryo had been backed up against the wall of Berkely’s office, holding paperwork up as a thin, mostly ineffective shield.

Diana sighed. One would think that, with Ryo and Dee getting off their asses and finally knocking boots, either Ryo would be more assertive turning Berkely down, or even that her friend would have the decency to back off. But that was apparently giving both of them far too much credit, and she shook her head. As it didn’t seem as if Dee was going to make one of his typical, last minute interferences, it was going to be up to her to help protect Ryo’s virtue.

Ugh. It was much more fun to get him all riled up over him and Dee’s relationship, progress as well as lack of said progress. But, this time, she’d help out.

Didn’t have anything to do with the way her chest tightened when she saw her friend doing his “loom and intense look” thing. Nothing at all. Never mind how attractive and interesting he looked.

“Well, well, aren’t we having fun while the cat’s away,” she said with a grin, walking right into the office and taking over a chair.

Ignoring the faint scowl she was getting from her friend, and the look of relief that she was getting from Ryo, she studied her nails instead. “Don’t tell me you forgot all about our meeting? I’m hurt.”

“Right, Diana” Ah, that wonderful dry tone of his. How she loved to make him use it. Smiling sweetly at him, she nodded at Ryo.

“Why don’t you go see where Dee got lost to. Knowing him, if you don’t find him, we’ll find him in the middle of some situation or another.” The look on Ryo’s face said she was probably more right than she thought, and she made a mental note to go poking through their past cases more. Just because it was fun, and she wanted to know if Dee attracted as much trouble as Ryo seemed to do.

Once the man had escaped, she looked at her friend. “Don’t you think you should ease up?” she asked, smoothing out her skirt. “He and Dee finally got their act together.”

“Dee still irritates me. And Ryo is getting quicker at escaping.” A small smile. “I’m enjoying the chase while it lasts.”

Diana made an amused sound, then stood and walked over to the man, taking over his lap. “Aw, you never told me that. Now I’ll have to take that into consideration. So, do you have one of your many dalliances planned out for tonight?”

Leaning back in his chair, Berkely quirked a brow at her, smile growing slightly. “Possibly, Dee Dee. Tell me, why do you ask?”

“Well, even though I -am- getting out here far more often than I had ever expected, I still miss spending time with you. If you are free of your many conquests for the night, I thought I’d take you out to dinner. Or will I have to get attacked by someone wielding a sharp object again?”

The last time the pair of them had done anything like really going out was after the situation with Rod Field. It was sad that she only got to see his real concern for her in situations when she had almost gotten killed. Sad and not just a little frustrating. Damnit, she was going to get him to admit something someday.

“No need to be that drastic, dear. If you’d like, of course we’ll have supper. Pamela will simply have to understand.”

She could feel the sharp smile cross her lips, and felt the man shift under her, suddenly slightly nervous as he spotted it. Really, it wasn’t as if she had ever done anything that scary to him. “Well, on the business side, I was coming to ask permission to steal your two favorite detectives again. They were rather deep in the whole mess with Leo Grant a few months back, even if it was unofficially. Have a situation that ties in with it, and for all their fussing at times, Dee and Ryo are good at their job.”

“Will you keep Laytner this time?”

She stuck her tongue out at him. “And deprive you of the pleasure of playing with him? No, I think I’ll leave you your little thorn. Need someone to keep you on your toes when I’m not here, and he does the job so well.” Smirking, she draped her arms around his shoulders. “So, may I steal your thorn and lust object?”

“Of course.” He smiled at her, that small grin he only used for her. She found it sweet. “Though I’d prefer that you not call them that around the office. People might become confuse on who you are referring, and I would be horrified if they thought I was lusting after Dee. My dignity wouldn’t take it.”

“My poor Berky. Thank you,” she said, then, moving quick, caught his face in her hands and gave him a kiss. A nice, heavy duty kiss. If Ryo had been brave enough to make his move finally with Dee, then maybe she should be brave enough to make one on Berkely.

He made a startled noise, eyes wide when she pulled back. “Well then,” she said brightly, sliding off his lap and collecting her coat as she moved for the door. “I’ll see you tonight. Eightish?”

A silent nod, still complete with a slightly startled look, was her answer, and she smiled. With that, she moved out of the office, smiling to herself.

She’d have to remember to send flowers Ryo. Preferably at work. A nice big bouquet. Not only would it make Dee and Berkely react in amusing ways, she really did need to say thank you to the man. If he was brave enough to take that step and get it on with Dee, then she should be brave enough to get it through Berkely’s skull that she was interested in a much more intimate relationship than just the brother-sister thing.

Maybe she’d send flowers to Berkely as well. Let that little dalliance pool of his know that there was someone serious on his tail. That would make him scowl to no end.

She couldn’t wait.
