I have a question about the sign-up rules for authors (I know, I know, the answers are actually in the rules, I just would like some clarification): I'm considering signing up with the story I wrote for last year and couldn't finish before the deadline. This is, as I understood it right, allowed in principle, but only if the unfinished story has less than 10k or words, right?
Yes indeed. :) Is it largely over 10k or only slightly over, and is it entirely unpublished? Are wanting to do Little or Big Bang? (There may be some wiggle room here so you can use what you have instead of starting fresh).
It's slightly over 29k, so I guess that's too big for an exception? :S As for being unpublished: I'm not sure, actually. I think I had small parts of it published either here or at het_banghelp, but I'm really not sure.
It's OK if there's no exception possible, rules are still rules. Just thought I had to ask ;)
Unless: will the finished product be 20k PLUS the 29k you've already written, for a total of 49/50k of words? Because to me, that would still be fulfilling the challenge of writing a 20k+ HBB fic in the time alotted.
(And putting up snippets in this comm or the help comm doesn't count as "published", so that's totally fine - I meant like, are there chapters up on AO3 or Lj or something already.)
If not, then ya, I'm sorry but you'll have to start something fresh for the challenge! :)
The sign up post is to confirm you are participating, and give us an idea of what you'll be writing, but you are free to change what you are writing (pairing or size or fandom) as many times as you want up until the Mandatory Check in - at that point, you will have to confirm one thing, period.
Up till then, though, you can change your mind without having to confirm anything anywhere. :)
I'm really sorry, but I'm going to have to drop out as an artist. I've been really sick, which is why I wasn't able to finish my fic, and I was hopeful to be able to do some art, but unfortunately there's no sign of me getting better any time soon.
I dont know if Kat_lair was able to get in touch with you but shes currently in Tanzania and wont be able to claim as an artist. She asked if I could claim for her
Hello!! Yes, we chatted over in the DW mirror community about the situation, and having a proxy claim for her. :) The previews are up right now, and claims will officially open tomorrow at 9 AM (EST).
Just out of curiosity: Are these all the stories? Cause in the official authors list, there were around 30 stories for the Big Bang alone. Did so many drop out? Which, I think, is sad, cause now, there's not one story that might interest me so much to do art for.

Yes, sadly. :(
We had 50 initial sign-ups (13 Little Bangs and a whopping 37 Big Bangs). As of the Mandatory Check In, we had 12 official drop outs, and 13 simply didn't complete the poll (which, once the check-in deadline has passed, we label as dropped out since that means we haven't heard from them since initial sign-ups). Of the remaining 25 stories, several changed from Big Bangs to Little, leaving us with 11 Big Bangs up for arting.
We totally understand stuff and life happens which results in dropping out or changing from Big to Little (maybe the story just doesn't go as planned, life crisis, etc), but each year the pool seems to be getting smaller and smaller, and the drop out rate higher and higher. We can't figure out what to do, and how to help people stay in it. It's super exciting to see so many people sign up but then it's super disheartening to see so many drop out, even when it can be totally understandable as to why.
That all being said, I always thoroughly appreciate all the hard work of the people still in the
